And here's Les Nesman to complete your Thanksgiving Weekend

I got into a conversation about old TV during my holiday. And eventually, the conversation turned to WKRP in Cincinatti which aired about 25 years ago.
In keeping with the Thanksgiving theme, here's a classic scene from that show.

Difference in the game....

Simply put: KU missed field goals, MU made theirs. And MU had two red zone turnovers in the game. And even though KU started to score consistently in the second half (and especially in the fourth quarter), MU was able to put the game out of reach.

Congrats Mizzou. OU will have a tough time beating you in the Big 12 Championship.

Halftime thoughts

Mizzou is playing better physical football than KU, especially their defense. When KU got into the red zone a couple of times the Tiger's D-line got into Reesing's face and started tipping passes.
In the previous post, I mentioned I thought KU was due to make a slew of mistakes....and they did in the first half. A defensive holding penalty during MU's second TD drive, two missed field goals, dropped passes in the red zone, an interception at the two-yard line (Mizzou got hosed on the replay call, BTW), and the inability to tackle Tony Temple.

Mizzou is impressive. They dominated the first half.

Thoughts on tonight's Big Game

It's twelve o'clock noon as I sit here and write this. The big KU-MU border showdown is seven hours away. I never thought I would see such a game of this magnitude. But it's big. Wasn't it twenty years ago that both Kansas and Missouri were enduring 70-0 thumpings at the hands of Nebraska and Oklahoma. Wow, times have changed!!!

Even though I graduated from KU and have been impressed by KU's perfect start and the apparent lack of mistake-making on the field, I feel that Mizzou will win this game simply based on the fact that I think that I am very impressed by the Tigers' offense and kick returning abilities. KU, on the other hand, is capable of playing either an under 20 point game or an over 70 point game. (BTW, I think there will more than 70 points in this game.).
But for KU, I think I am waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop and for them to make mistakes and for the Tigers to capitalize. Final score: MU 38, KU 31.

Sorry, KU friends but I'm not quite convinced that KU is the real deal.

Obviously, post-game thoughts to come from this '88 alum who only experienced mediocre football at best while he attended KU.

Psycho Shower Scene--sort of

Because they were in decrepid condition, I had to weed a couple of Alfred Hitchcock biographies today. In my dispair, I surfed YouTube tonight to see if I could find the Psycho shower scene to cheer me up. For my efforts, I did find this, ahem, "mashed" up version of the famous shower scene.

It's official: new neighbors coming

In following up the previous day's post: When I left for work this morning, I saw a "For Sale" sign for the house to the east of mine. I will be getting new neighbors......eventually.

Sad news from Dallas

I received a phone call at work today: the lady who painted my big painting in my living room has passed away. I only knew her for seven short years. She always made me feel welcome at her house in North KC. She was planning to paint a rendering of the San Juan Islands for me and I was planning to hang that painting in my bedroom, but.....

I will miss her.

Where are the rowdy neighbors?

It's quiet to the east of my house, strangely quiet.

For the past month, there's been no loud music thumping out of the basement next door, there are no crushed beer cans in my lawn, and no mailbox-destroying cars in the street.

I think the rowdy neighbors either pulled up roots and moved elsewhere, got evicted by the landlord, or on a very, very long vacation. I have yet to talk to my neighbors to see what they know.

In the meantime, I am grateful for the peace and quiet.
