Two new classes to teach

Quick note: I have put the finishing touches on two new classes I plan to teach in the computer lab. One is a Publisher class and the other is an Advanced Excel class.

Programming, programming, programming.

Feeling the economic wave at the library in terms of computers

Last month our library lost its full-time computer services technician due to layoffs. He will be missed because his knowledge was good and the upkeep of the computers we had at the time punctual. And besides, he made it possible for me to have a second computer, a notebook, at a cheaper price than a new store bought machine.
With the downsizing of the staff, I think Computer Services took a VERY proactive approach and decided to go ahead and install the new patron machines in the computer lab. This way the technician would not have to address a rinky-dink repair as frequently as it occurred with the old machines. Broken mouse here. Broken audio cable here. Bad keyboard.
We'll see what happens in two to three years.

My break from blogging

You know, it's a real sad situation when a journalist has nothing to write about.

I think the reason why I haven't blogged lately can be attributed to a couple of things:

First, Facebook. I really see the benefit of this social medium. As a matter a fact, I usually average one surprise a week when I log in. For example, tonight I established a friendship with a junior high and high school friend who I haven't seen in (let's take a wild guess here) thirty years. He's now a very successful political science professor, the head of his department.

Second, with the stresses of staff reduction in our library system and not knowing where my future will take me, I didn't want to post something in my blog that I might regret later. In other words, I gave myself a timeout from the blogosphere. Now that the staff reductions is a month behind, I'll try to keep future posts topical and I'll try to avoid putting my foot in my mouth.
