Web 2.0

This video was created by a prof at K-State University and has been circulated in youtube, Tame the Web, and the Shifted Librarian. And I think it symbolizes the fact that librarians have to deal with the changing way in which information is delivered.

Whatever your philosophy, I hope you find some utility from this video.

Numbers

56.7
67.8
70.5
66.5
64.3
and
67.2

What do these numbers have in common? No, these are not test scores from a high school class. These are thermometer readings throughout the library. It was cold tonight. And with yesterday's power outage, it may be a while before our heat works properly.

When Reality really stinks...

How do you handle unruly kids at the library?

Tasers!!!

Suggestion made from a college buddy (known for his sarcastic wit) who sent me an email. :)

Of course professional decorum forces me to find other possibilities.

At the corner of 7 highway and Johnson Drive

As if they don't have enough stores, Wal-Mart wants to put in a store in Shawnee, KS at the intersection of K-7 and Johnson Drive. I pass through this intersection every time I go to MS and PS' house. The proposed Wal-Mart would be built next to some high-priced housing and would probably decimate the traffic patterns there until the city can renovate the intersection there. MS and PS have stated they don't want a new Wal-Mart there. They are perfectly satisfied with the Wal-Mart 5 miles away on Shawnee Mission Parkway. MS and neighbors H and L attended a meeting of people clearly against the building of Wal-Mart.
My perspective is Wal-Mart wants to develop all possible markets even if it means building a store on every city block. I think it boils down to simple greed with executives and city officials and I won't be a bit surprised if we hear more about this controversial situation on the local media. I can definitely understand why some people don't have a smiley face in Shawnee.

Football Advertising

The commercials were bland this year; but, nonetheless, I did have a couple of favorites. See Below:

and this one, because it reminds me of a show I used to watch:

KC Librarian leads his first solo book talk

I lead my first book talk today. Eleven of us talked about Chistopher Paolini's book Eragon. Reaction to the book was mixed with the chief criticism that Paolini borrowed a lot from the Star Wars series as well as Lord of the Rings. For a slide show of our book talk today, click on the picture below:
