Commence the Summer Movies 2008

I got the afternoon off from work today, so I decided to treat myself to a matinee at the movies. The movie of choice: Iron Man starring Robert Downey, Jr. First of all, a positive KC librarian review for this movie--well written, well acted, and the special effects were convincing.

Downey plays Tony Stark, a brilliant engineer with a high IQ and a taste for the party lifestyle. However, Tony Stark experiences a change of heart after his capture in Afghanistan (in the comic book I think it's Viet Nam) and realizes that his company's dedication and devotion to providing high-tech weapons to military entities might not be the best of ideas. From this change of consciousness comes his alter ego, Iron Man. Anyway, I won't resort to a typical movie review but will conclude by acknowledging Downey's performance as well as the performances of Jeff Bridges, Terrance Howard, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

BTW, the trailers had a super-hero theme with previews of The Dark Knight, The Incredible Hulk, and Indiana Jones.
